Selfridges Christmas In July is one of the hottest launch tickets
on the calendar. A preview of all their Christmas goodies,
including the uh, Indecent Bed, with a bedhead using satin quilt
squares to depict a digital image of a naked woman (for an extra
gazillion pounds you can get your own indecent image bespoked!),
some daunting christmas cake moulds - a set of five
houses...whew..decorate that, someone! - and a lot, a LOT of
chocolately things. But in amongst that, there are some absolute
beauty aces for Christmas (yes, I said the C word). The thing I
loved the most was the L'Oreal Advent Calender containing mini
sizes of all their prestige products such as Lancome and Khiels. I
took a couple of pictures on my phone camera but then realised that

I am seriously excited about the Perfumed Stink Bombs from Cire
Trudon. The tiny glass phials contain an intense fragrance that
will immediately fragrance a room, although I love the idea of
doing this outside - or just randomly scenting unexpected areas
along my travels (although at £29 for ten, I'm not
sure I am generous enough to become the Banksy of sudden
fragrancing!) The 'Bombes Puantes Parfumees' come in a variety of
scents - easily my favourite is Moroccan Mint Tea -who wouldn't
want to be surrounded by a gorgeous minty aroma on a summer night?
The other scents are: - Ernesto – Leather and
Tobacco - Nazareth - Clove and Orange* - Odalisque - Orange

I've waited a good few weeks to actually post about this product,
because I wanted to see if I truly noticed a difference in my lip
condition over a period of time. I'm always falling in love with
lip balms and use them copiously, but feel that while they deal
with the immediate problem of comforting, and nourishing, the other
things that I don't like about my lips - such as loss of volume and
fine lines are never truly tackled. Power Lip Expert claims to
leave lips more voluminious with less wrinkles around the mouth,
and in a test of 30 women over 3 weeks, 96% felt their lips looked
fuller and well cared for. While I'm not a stats addict, I do like
to see stats. I'm always a little surprised when stats results come
back from varying brands with things like '45% of women agreed, ...

Sold out of Superdrug, the Makeup Artist Academy (MUA) range is
something of an eye opener. With every item costing
£1, I was fully expecting to get make up that behaves
like it costs £1! I was given two eye shadow samples -
one slate grey with a light shimmer, and a gorgeous irridescent
popping purple colour (Shade 9 Pearl), and started to use them with
trepidation. Knowing that the colour had to last all day, I used
Urban Decay Potion Primer underneath. The formula is surprisingly
soft, and plenty of Shade 9 (top row, second along in the picture)
lifted easily onto my brush. The colour didn't translate as vividly
as it looks in the pan, but looked a decent enough colour on the
lids. It was easily buildable, and it stayed pretty well all day
long. I'm a...

Every single time, I'm a sucker for Chanel. I've just got my hands
on the yet-to-launch Coco Mademoiselle bath & body range which
has Moisturising Body Lotion (with a touch of beige shimmer),
Foaming Shower Gel and Velvet Body Oil (a silky dry oil), and it's
just lovely. I can't think of a more gorgeous way to get the day
off to a perfectly pampered start. Nobody really mentions
'fragrance layering' these days; it used to be a complete beauty
fad - from the marketing perspective, a reason why you should buy
everything, and from a beauty perspective, another way to
experience perfuming. It was recommended that you would bathe in
scented oils, slosh on the lotion and then add the perfume on top.

Ok, I'm taking a very deep breath before writing this as I suspect
its not going to be a popular post. However, the issue of the
Cosmopolitan Blog Awards has been niggling away for so long now
that I wanted to share my view. The awards idea seemed to be a
fabulous recognition of bloggers at the very beginning and I even
posted about it in a very positive way at the time, but now seems
to have veered off into a competition that is somewhat flawed.
Initially, I saw my blog pop up on a round up of entries on

highlight some entrants and not others in a competitive
environment. But, when I was emailed by Cosmo's Deputy Editor

Now here's a brand I never thought I'd be blogging about, but when
I heard from the PR that bottles of Yardley April Violet Eau de
Toilette had reached £100 on Ebay, I had a quick
rethink! Yardley - and Woods of Windsor (owned by the same company)
are completely revamping their entire ranges to fall in line with
more modern tastes. I adore the scent of violets - as sugary as you
like. There's no particular association for me with it; its just
that my nose seems to love that highly powdery, sweet smell.
Ironically, I absolutely hate the taste of parma violets although
I've been known to keep one in my pocket just to have a quick
sniff! Anyway, because there was such demand (and such crazy
prices) for April Violet on the aforementioned Ebay, Yardley took

A couple of weeks ago I went to the launch of Neal's Yard Organic
Colour With Care Cosmetics. On the one hand, I can see quite why
they are such a cosmetic feat; it's the only cosmetics range with a
collection certified organic by the Soil Association. However, my
heart sank a little when I saw how utterly boring they were. They
look like the kind of apologetic organic products that I'd hoped
we'd seen the back of. What I'd envisaged for this range was
something sleek and exciting - something off the predictable
organic track - but, no. Four meek little colours (Sage, Barley,

powders, too - something I find very hard to work with because of
the intevitable drop. However challenging and difficult it was to

I'm sure when this fragrance launches in September that it will
become the new way to propose, much like the trend for presenting
your intended with a solid silver Love Heart sweetie bearing the
same inscription as this scent. It's a very sweet fragrance; by
that I mean it's totally inoffensive without grabbing your
olfactory senses and shaking them about somewhat, as is the current
fragrance trend. It's meant to tell the story of the moments of
instant attraction, but I'd have to admit this was lost on me. It
is, however, the kind of scent that others will notice and probably
ask you what you are wearing. Notes of Tunisian bitter orange and

minor imperfections with a finish that isn't dewy exactly, and it
isn't matt either; it's what I would call a natural skin finish.
